SERIES OVERVIEW
Its 1922 and young couple, Alma and Jessie, are renting a flat in Edinburgh, having been dispatched to the city some days before by their employer, Harry Houdini. They’ve been sent to uncover fraudulent mediums ahead of the magician’s tour to Scotland, and have begun their investigation with the infamous spiritualist Madam Clara, with whom Alma has a dramatic and seemingly supernatural visitation.


ABOUT THE WRITER
Harry (they/she) is a mixed-heritage, queer new writer originally from Wales and now living in Edinburgh. Their first play, The Brenda Line, is shortlisted for the Alfred Fagon Award, and a TV adaptation is currently in development. Their TV script, The Houdini Detectives, was a finalist in the Studio 21 Drama Series prize in 2023 and was optioned in 2024, and their forthcoming debut novel, Saturn Devours his Daughter was a finalist in both the 2023/24 Merky Book Prize, a collaboration between Stormzy and Penguin Random House, and the Peters Fraser Dunlop Queer Literature Prize 2024.

Harry is currently writing The Direction of Last Things, a new play for Theatr Clwyd Cymru, and developing an exciting new political drama with collaborator, BAFTA Award-winning Hope Dickson Leach. They are also one of the select few participating in the highly respected Royal Court Introduction to Playwriting scheme. This year, they are featured in The List Magazine’s Hot 100 – a rundown of the top cultural contributors in Scotland.
