A cosmic event sees a dissatisfied, social media-obsessed millennial cross paths with her doppelgänger from another dimension: the best self she’s always dreamed of being.
SERIES OVERVIEW
SOPHIE (early 30s, white-passing) feels a million miles from who she wants to be. When an accident during a solar eclipse allows her to see her perfect self from another dimension, a friendship develops.
THE WRITER
Maja Bodenstein is a trilingual screenwriter of German/Chinese heritage who grew up in Beijing and Hong Kong before moving to the UK. She is developing an original feature film script, THE MANIKIN, with producer Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor (BLUE STORY), and is working on an interactive accompaniment to a feature film adaptation of Mithu Sanyal’s novel “Identitti” alongside adapting screenwriter Friederike Jehn, for producer Roman Paul of Razor Films. Maja is a founding member of a team of four British writers of East and South-East Asian heritage, who are writing an original comedy drama series pilot for Headline Pictures/ITV. She has also contributed a chapter to a new graphic novel based on original fantasy IP “Floraverse” for Storypunk, alongside lead writer Rebecca Boey, and she wrote and hosted a guided non-linear narrative for Secret Story Network, titled WAITING FOR YOU – an interactive storytelling experience delivered via WhatsApp. Previously, Maja wrote and co-directed an interactive VR experience titled THE PIRATE QUEEN – which won Discovery Award: Best Debut at Raindance Festival 2021’s Immersive programme – about Ching Shih; a Chinese widow who took over her husband’s fleet and became the most powerful pirate of all time in the lead up to the Opium Wars. For Singer Studios in partnership with Goldsmiths University and Escape Studios, supported by Creative England and ScreenSkills UK. She has now been commissioned to write and storyline a full-length version of the game with Singer Interactive for Oculus/Meta. She was selected for the inaugural BEATS Fellowship program, a mentoring scheme aimed at British East Asian creatives working in film, TV and theatre backed by ScreenSkills and the BFI. She was also selected for Asian-European co-production labs Ties that Bind and Bridging the Dragon, PugliaExperience Traveling Stories Lab and Athena Screenwriters’ Lab.
